Amongst the rants against "big oil" in general and a leading industry executive in particular, are some more sensible letters to the editor.

Welfare Rolls Will Soar

I've been reading about the future of the oil and gas industry. As a worker in the industry I've seen that since last spring, everthing has slowed almost to a stop.

There are people filing for bankruptcy and going through divorce. Now the Alberta government has to bring up the royalty review. That should have been done when the industry was hopping. It's a little late now to bring up royalties. How many people does Premier Ed want to support on welfare? We could easily beomc the next Newfoundland - broke. I hope an agreement can be made so both sides of the fence are happy.

Where will the money go?

Albertans will NOT get their "fair share" of any increasein royalty payments. We the people are being hoodwinked by the government. Some of the increase in royalty funds MAY go to thinkgs like schools, infrastructure, etc. however I'm will to bet most will go into general revenue and little will benefit the average Albertan.

I'd like to see a complete accounting. How about a decrease in taxes?
