Mandatory Targets On Industry

I was reading a June 4th issue of Canadian Business last night when something really caught my eye in the editorial.

“we have a minority government in Ottawa that doesn’t want to upset its western voter base, but it would make good political sense to do something – anything – given that the environment is topping the list of Canadian concerns these days. To be fair, the feds did release An Action Plan to Reduce Greenhouse Gases and Air Pollution on April 26. In it, they promised to cut this country’s carbon dioxide emissions by 20%, or 150 megatonnes, by 2020. By 2012, the Tories predict emissions growth will stop, and by 2050, emissions will be down 70%.”

“But the time for plans is over. We need tough action on the environment from all governments”

Note that these are whopping big targets; Kyoto sized. Now Chretien was smart enough to NOT implement Kyoto. I can’t say the same for the Federal tories; look at their handling of the royalty trust issue.

Hmmmmm……… I googled the action plan's title and found this excerpt from a prominent federal Tory – note the "mandatory targets" :

“Turning the Corner: An Action Plan to reduce Greenhouse Gases and Air Pollution will impose mandatory targets on industry that will bring about an absolute reduction in greenhouse gases by 150 megatonnes by 2020. It will cut by half air pollution from industry by 2015. “

You thought the royalty trust fiasco was bad?

Or the Royalty Review?

Those two events might just be to warm us up to a global warming based loot fest!

Feel like a lobster in a pot?
